There are so many considerations when creating colour palettes in interface design… accessibility, usability, variety, harmony, branding. No wonder we often default to pre-built palettes that have done the thinking for us. But where’s the fun in that?! Creating a unique colour palette is an opportunity to design a fun, distinctive palette calibrated precisely to make our interfaces more functional and accessible.Laura is a long-time colour nerd and accessibility advocate. In this talk, she will explore rules and guides for keeping your colour palettes accessible with room for creativity. She’ll look at limitations, including working with existing brand colours, light and dark modes, and producing helpful design documentation that developers will appreciate. Accessible colour palettes don’t have to be boring!

She’s co-founder of Small Technology Foundation, a tiny two-person-and-one-husky not-for-profit organisation advocating for and building small technology designed to increase human welfare, not corporate profits.
